Achieving regulatory compliance while maintaining efficiency in a structured work process

RTI workflow for seismic restraint of non-structural components

In this specialized area of practice, RTI has developed a library of typical and custom solutions for the seismic restraint of components of buildings, with a focus on mechanical and electrical installations.

RTI follows a standardized workflow for the projects in compliance with EGBC Guidelines governing the practice, meeting the intent of the Schedules S-B and S-C

  • Review of drawings and shop drawings. It is critical that current IFC drawings and complete shop drawings are available at the start of the design.

  • Development of design forces and deformations based on project criteria provided by the Structural Engineer of Record (EOR).

  • Identification of applicable solutions customized to contractor preferences to provide 100% coverage of scope.

  • Calculations, analysis, design

  • Development of a sealed IFC design package provided early in the project for acceptance by professionals of record for the project, including

    • General notes

    • Complete list of components with references to solutions

    • Standard details

    • Typical details

    • Custom details

    • Reports with calculations (where required)

    • Schedule S-B

  • With the package accepted, the installer has a detail with anchor sizes for every installation, to minimize guesswork in the field.

  • RTI provides inspections with inspection reports during the installation

  • Schedule S-C is issued after a satisfactory final inspection
